Despite its catches almost halving in 2012, the anchoveta is still the most caught species at the
global level followed by "MBTLBQPMMPDL, TLJQKBDLUVOB, "UMBOUJDIFSSJOH and DIVCNBDLFSFM.
The FAO global capture database now includes statistics for almost 1 600 harvested marine
species, but 23 major species alone represent about 40 percent of the total marine catch.
