The present study developed a program, modeled
in part on the Foxx and Brown smoking
study, that would decrease the caffeine ingested
by excessive coffee drinkers to a moderate level.
Moderation was the goal rather than abstinence
since, unlike nicotine which is harmful in
any amount, the ingestion of reasonable amounts
of caffeine (five cups of brewed coffee or less)
has not been shown to be harmful.
