And so, Mahayana means the “Great Vehicle,” because the bodhisattva as an ideal Buddhist wants to help save each person in the world.
So enlightenment is not just about the bodhisattva alone (a small vehicle); it is for all of humanity (hence a bigger vehicle).
We can see, then, that early (or Theravada) Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism entail differing views of human nature and human destiny.
