One of the lowland Thais in Kamphaeng Ngam became a leader of his group of relatives and the Akhas in trying to look after Khlong Mae Kha. The problem of Khlong Mae Kha was discussed at a network level. Community leaders decided to mobilise the people in the area around Khlong Mae Kha to cooperate in cleaning the canal (Khlong). The inhabitants of the area, altogether over 700 persons including the highland people, joined together in cleaning the Khlong. The highland people were praised for their work. They did not hesitate to get into the very dirty water to gather up waste and filth. Through such cooperation in projects to solve their mutual problems, the relationship between the highland and lowland Thais has changed from hostility and isolation to friendship and cooperation.
