3. Thailand’s GHG mitigationtarget
In 2000Thailandemittedabout70%ofitscarbondioxide
emissions fromtheenergysector,about23%fromtheagricultural
sector,andabout7%fromindustrialprocesses.ThetrendofGHG
emissions inThailandhasbeenincreasing;however,Thailandis
categorizedinNon-AnnexIcountriesandhasnocommitmentto
anyquantitativeobjectivesundertheKyotoProtocol.Thereare
manyprojectswhichshowanintentionofbeingthemain
supporter forclimatechangereductionandGHGmitigationin
South-East AsiaincludingtheproposedNationallyAppropriate
Mitigation Actions(NAMAs).Thailand’s NAMAsareclassified into
two types:domesticNAMAsandinternationallysupported
NAMAs.DomesticNAMAsordomesticallysupportedmitigation
actions aretheunilateralNAMAswhose financing andimplemen-
tation aresupportedbyThailand’s governmentasthecounter-
measures intheseNAMAsgenerallyhavelowinvestmentcostand
can beimplemented,e.g.energymanagementandenergyefficiency
improvement.TheinternationalNAMAsorinternational
supported mitigationactionsinvolvehighinvestmentcostand
advancedtechnologycountermeasures.Thereforetheinterna-
tional NAMAshavetoseekinternationalsupporttofacilitate
financial assistanceoncountermeasures.In2020,theamountof
forecastedGHGemissionsis331.6Mt-CO2 and theNAMAsproject
reportedthatThailandhaspotentialtoreduceGHGemissions
about 29.5Mt-CO2 for domesticNAMAsand35.5Mt-CO2 for
internationallysupportedNAMAs.ThetotalofGHGmitigation
from theNAMAsprojectis65.0Mt-CO2 and accountedfor19.6%of
totalemissions.Therefore,theGHGmitigationlevelsin2020,
which areconsideredinthisstudy,areanalyzedattwolevels:10%
and 20%,andincreasedto30%and50%in2050,respectively.
