Baraff et al.(2006)also found that care for suicidal patients in the ED is inconsistent.Baraff et al. surveyed providers in California EDs and found that 23% of the ED providers send patients with suicidal ideation home without a mental health evaluation.Fifty percent of the respondents do not have personnel trained to provide psychiatric/mental health evaluations in the ED,and the majority of those responding to the survey report that they would like improved access to mental health personnel for evaluation and for patient disposition.
