Men and women come to misinterpret each other, even when they approach
communication with the best of intentions. Most problems in cross-cultural gender
communication are caused by ‘faulty translations.’ This happens when interpret women
according to rules of masculine culture and when women interpret men according to rules of
feminine culture. When we understand there are distinct gender cultures, and respect the logic
of each one, we’ll empower ourselves to communicate in ways that enhance our relationships.
Interrelationship has become more important than ever before. Linguistic politeness is a social
lubricant which can help to create maintain rapport. Knowing the differences in polite
behavior between men and women can be very helpful to achieve effective communication to
enhance relationship.
