This paper reports on the synthesis of titanate nanofibers via simple hydrothermal treatment. The prepared
samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD,) scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission electron
microscope (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The crystalline structure of the as-synthesized nanofibers
demonstrated a layered titanate form, H
2Ti
xO2x+1
. The length of the prepared nanofibers range from 2–7 μm with diameters
ranging from 20–90 nm. Furthermore, XPS spectra of O 1s, Ti 2p and Fe 2p are in agreement with the element chemical
states of the titanate nanofibers. These Fe-doped titanate nanofibers may present utility as a particular photocatalyst
material for hydrogen production from water splitting reaction, dye-sensitized solar cells and decomposition of organic
pollutant.
