Erythron—The moderate normocytic normochromic anemia without evidence of polychromasia is consistent with nonregenerative anemia. Anemia of inflammatory disease is the primary differential; however, acute blood loss cannot be ruled out. Erythocyte fragmentation is still present.
Leukon—The mild lymphopenia is consistent with a glucocorticoid response, which is further supported by the nonspecific elevation in ALKP (see Chemistry).
Thrombon and coagulogram—The mild thrombocytopenia and enlarged platelets indicate peripheral destruction or consumption with evidence of bone marrow responsiveness to a peripheral demand. This, along with erythrocyte fragmentation, a prolonged PT and aPTT, and a reduced ATIII activity, supports DIC.
