ResultsParticipantsThe PEM-CY was completed online by 576 parents and guardiansof children with and without disabilities residing in the UnitedStates and Canada. The groups were similar in a number ofdemographic characteristics (table 2). Most respondents weremothers, had high levels of education (most graduated fromcollege or graduate school), and lived in similar types ofcommunities (most resided in the Northeast, United States, andSouthern Ontario, Canada). There were approximately equalnumbers of children with disabilities (nZ282) and withoutdisabilities (nZ294). Most children were white, non-Hispanic(nZ466; 81%) followed by black (nZ19; 3%), South Asian(nZ15; 2.5%), Hispanic/Latino (nZ10; 2%), other (nZ8; 1%), ornot reported (nZ46; 7%). More children without disabilities wereyounger than 12 years (P<.002) and lived in households withincomes of more than $80,000 (P<.001). Children with disabilitieshad a broad range of diagnoses and disabling conditions(table 3).
