The carcinogenic effects of Benzene are reported in literature This makes Hexane manufactures further modify the process for limiting the Benzene impurity to produce highest purity food/pharmaceutical grade Hexane. Classification of different solvents as per their toxicity and their permissible limits are given in International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines (ICH Q3C (R4)). According to the ICH Q3C (R4), Benzene is a class-I solvent which should be limited to not more than 2 μg g−1 (2 ppm) in the final pharmaceutical/food product.
