GREEN EVENTS CHECKLIST
1. Make “green” a factor in the event-planning process—alongside price, convenience, quality, and style.
2. Focus on the green opportunities in three stages:
Advance purchase products and services (invitations, decorations, food service)
Event itself
Aftermath (what is left over after everyone has gone home)
3. Green your shopping list—choose the more sustainable options when cost and convenience don't demand another
choice.
4. Ask vendors about their focus on sustainability—and factor their answers into your purchasing decisions.
5. Consider green in selecting event locations.
6. Let the meeting participants or event guests know about the role they can play in making the event more sustainable.
For example, direct them to recycling bins and thank them for participating.
7. Figure out how to divert as much of the leftover materials from the waste stream: donate, gift, reuse, compost, and
recycle.
