The initial burst release might be attributed to the release of EOswhich were not properly entrapped into the core of the polymer (meansadsorbed near the surface), as dissolution rate of the polymer near thesurface is high, the amount of EO released will be also high; however,the controlled release at later stage might be due to the diffusion of theEO dispersed into the polymeric matrix as the dominant phenomenon[128,129]. The rate of release may depends on the size of the entrappedmaterial in the coating, thickness of the wall material in the coating,molecular mass of the polymer, and medium of the dispersion.
