Rural air pollution arises from duststorms, smoke from bushfires, and, occasionally,
from volcanic eruptions. In such cases the link between the meteorology
and the hazard is relatively clear. The link is less obvious in the case of urban air
pollution. This article illustrates that urban air pollution exhibits all three features
that distinguish a meteorological hazard (as listed in the opening paragraph) and
may thus be classed as a meteorological hazard
