Under both conditions, regression coefficients b showed that N and various ratios incorporating N with the exception of C/N ratio had overriding influence on N transformation. Polyphenols and PBC exhibited 4-7 times less influence in submerged than aerobic conditions Table 7.
Under submerged conditions, N alone can explain up to 60% of the variance equation not shown. When polyphenol/ N ratio is added into the equation the value increased to 62%. This highlights the importance of N content of organic materials in controlling the N transformation. Under aerobic conditions, N alone can explain 53 % of the variance in N transformation but by adding polyphenol the prediction was improved to 62% equations not shown. Polyphenol appears to be the second most influential quality factor in residue N transformation under aerobic conditions.
