COD (including both soluble and particulate) was determined
using a standard dichromate oxidation (open reflux method)
method. Current output and substrate degradation rate (SDR) were
considered as the two key parameters to evaluate the performance
of MFC during operation (Mohan et al., 2010). To quantify the cell
performance throughout the experiments, the potential difference
between the anode and cathode (cell voltage, V) was recorded
every 15 min using a data acquisition system (Keithley Instruments
2700, USA) connected to a personal computer.
