Intervention & Progress (continued)
Week 1: After the first dressing change, the wound looked cleaner and the necrotic tissue started to loosen. The wound management regimen remained the same: cleansing, debridement and dressing changes every three days using AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing as the primary dressing, covered with CureaTM superabsorbent dressing and a compression bandage
Week 3: After three weeks of management with AQUACELTM
Ag+ dressing, the level of granulation increased and a bridge of epithelialization divided the wound into two parts. At this visit, the patient’s pain rating with dressing in situ had decreased to 1 out of 10. The level of exudate decreased, therefore the frequency of dressing changes was reduced from every three days to every five days.
Week 6: After 6 weeks of management with AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, the wound bed was covered with granulation tissue, and the bridge of epithelial tissue divided the wound into two smaller wounds measuring 3 x 4.2 cm and 3 x 8 cm. Exudate level was moderate, signs of maceration and infection had decreased, and the patient’s pain level was rated as 2 during dressing changes, and 1 with dressing in situ.
