The founder members of the Le’u Dunpa Bumtherma Monlam chenmo and the authorities of the Sangchen Pemaynagtse Monastery, the seat of Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo, decided to celeberate 360th anniversary of Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo this year. One of the main object of the celeberation is to pay gratitute to the kindness of Naljor Cheshi in general and Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo in particular and to create awareness in Sikkim and the world. One of the unque project was to create a giant Yuthang Chenmo, ( torquise thanka) since Lhatsun is in torquise colour by using actual ‘Yu’.
Lopon Tenpa Gyatso and Jamyang Dorjee, the Regional Coordinator of the Conservancy for Trans Himalayan Arts and Culture, based in Kathmandu met famouse applique master Tendar la, who was a student of the Ven Phuntsok la, Namza Chenmo, personal tailor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Within a period of almost ten months almost 12 artisens worked contieously under his supervison and the job of creating this unque thanka is completed. It used more then 4 kgs of Torquise, imported from Afghanistan, besides many precious stones and pearls. Kyabji Yangthang Rinpoche, while supervisng the work called this as “ Zamling Yuthang Chenmo’.
This will be displayed once in a year on the Lhatsun Chenpo day at Pemayangtse monaster annually.
A replica printed thanka of the same is also made available to the devotees from Sangchen Pemayangtse Monastery.
The scroll will be displayed during the 3rd Le’u Dunpa Bumtherma Monlam chenmo 2015 on this special occasion. DOR-U-CHO SUM of Sangchen Pemayangtse Monastery will lead the historical step of this era.
