Task: Does not have unusual or repetitive habits.
Prerequisites: COG 6
Concept: Behaviors that can be described as unusual or repetitive arc often referred to as stereotypic. Two aspects that must be considered are (a) some of these behaviors have an biological basis and cannot be reasonably dealt with without medical assistance and (b) only behaviors that are obtrusive (actions that draw significant attention to themselves) should be addressed. These behaviors often are communicating something. Fear, anxiety, boredom, and a need for stimulation are common messages. This lesson attempts to determine and then address possible behavioral causation.
Behavioral Objective: The student will demonstrate no more than I minute of defined stereotypic behaviors during a 50-minute period.
