The original condition of the soil in each plot was the result of
different farming systems. The values of the CI (without traffic) were
always higher for direct sowing soil, followed by seedbed and,
finally, ploughed soil (see Table 3). These results were predictable.
In general, there were no significant differences found in the soil
water content between the soil conditions when the CI was
measured, and correction or allowance for this was not considered
necessary
