In light of these issues, we arranged design workshops
to try to find a solution, focusing on the design of the console.
Console prototypes were collaboratively developed and tested
during two design workshops. In addition to the gamers, an
occupational therapist and an enrolled nurse participated in the
workshops. Different materials were tested, paper, plastic and a
thermoplastic splint. The thermoplastic splint was used in the final
prototype, as it was easily moulded by heat. The two workshops
resulted in an alternative console design with a lid (see Figure 7).
It was designed to be easy to grip and to keep gamers from pushing
buttons inadvertently. The redesign workshop was done during
both case 1 and case 2. The gamers in both locations preferred the
adjusted console because it was easier to hold and it kept them
from accidentally restarting the system.
