Also known as sweetsop in Jamaica and the Bahamas, sugar apples range from a conical to heart shaped. When the fruit is ripe the net-like skin breaks apart easily in your hands to reveal cohering segments of white pulp that are custard like in texture with light sweetness that is heavenly. This fruit is found all over the world and is best served in its purest form so that one can enjoy the delicate flavor of the pulp while spitting out the black or dark brown oblong-cylindrical seeds. There may be as many as 28 to 30 of these seeds in a single fruit, but anyone who has tasted it can tell you it is worth the hassle. The pulp can also be passed through a sieve to make milkshakes, smoothies, sherbet and ice cream.
