Authors have investigated the possibility of using graphite
as lubricating medium to reduce the heat generated at the
grinding zone in surface grinding with a newly developed
experimental setup for the purpose [13]. In any machining
setup a systematic analysis of process parameters is essential
to find out their relative influence on the direct process
outputs or on the secondary variables, which have direct
impact on the process results. Taguchi’s method of experimental
design has become a powerful tool for serving this
purpose and thereby optimizing the process outputs [28,29].
This paper deals with the application of Taguchi method for
the analysis of process parameters in the new experimental
setup in surface grinding with graphite as lubricant. The
relative influence of process parameters such as speed, feed,
infeed and mode of dressing on the performance characteristics
of surface finish and forces developed have been
analyzed. The results have been compared with the results
obtained from the conventional coolant grinding based on
the same approach.
