14.3.4 Where adequate flowing velocity is not available, a suitable device for mixing the fluid flow should be installed upstream of the sampling tap to reduce stratification to an acceptable level. If flow has been vertical for a sufficient
distance, as in a platform riser, such a device may not be necessary even at low flow rates. Some effective methods for
obtaining adequate mixing are: a reduction in pipe size, a series of baffles, and orifice or perforated plate, or combination of any of these methods. The design or sizing of the device is optional with the user, as long as the flowing stream is sufficiently well mixed to provide a representative sample from the probe.
