4. The citation performance of international articles in finance
Table 3 compares the rankings of sixteen finance journals included in this sample to the results of
existing empirical surveys. Four variables measuring international expertise (Score10, Intscore10, Ratio,
and Zeroint) are compared to the three following performance variables found in other studies: 2009
Impact Factor (ISI), Author Affiliation Index (Chen & Huang, 2007), and Quality (Currie et al., 2011).
Table 3 shows that among the sixteen sampled journals, four publications stand out for their international
expertise, as measured by their variables Ratio (greater than 1.1) and Zeroint (less than 10%): the Journal
of Financial Economics; Journal of Banking and Finance; Journal of Corporate Finance; and Financial Analysts
Journal. Three out of four journals had ranking improvements, including two noticeable performances for
the Journal of Banking and Finance (from 25th in 2004 to 16th in 2010) and the Journal of Corporate Finance
(from 21st to 15th).
