physical activity constitutes any bodily movement produced by the skeletal muscles resulting in energy expenditure,

such as dance,
sport,
deliberate exercise or informal activity,
such as walking,
swimming and gardening (Cavill, Kahlmeier, and Racioppi 2006);
exercise is considered a subset of physical activity,
purposely taken to improve some aspect of physical fitness,
for example muscle strength and endurance or to improve health (Caspersen et al. 1985)
