Tourist arts with ethnic significance are a complex of dynamic modes of communication lying at the intersection of the phenomena of tourism, ethnicity, and arts and crafts. A Venn diagram would show that not all tourism is ethnic tourism nor are all souvenirs ethnic, though they may have localized significance; not all arts and crafts are made for touristic consumption, though most of them might be subject to tourists’ attempts to buy them: not all have ethnic significance, i.e., a “cultural location:” and not all ethnic@ is visible or directed at outsiders such as tourists, though all ethnicities are symbolized by material items to some degree.
