On the other hand, the expression patterns of some viral genome
genes varied in plant and insect hosts. P10 was expressed lower in
SBPH than in plant hosts (Fig. 2). In particular, P10 was the most abundantly
expressed gene inmaize and wheat, accounting for 35% and 41%
of total levels respectively, whereas itwas expressed significantly lower
(accounting for only 8.6%) in SBPH (Fig. 2). The outer capsid protein P10
forms vesicular structures associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
membrane and induces expression of ER stress-related chaperones
and transcription factor in plant cells (Sun et al., 2013a). ER is often
used by virus as a site of virus replication and virion assembly. The
high abundance of P10 may be beneficial for efficient viral replication
and virion assembly in plant hosts.
