Little mentioned in the beginning of the 1990’s that autonomy was the new
“buzz word” in language learning, which definitely could still be true today, as for instance Benson (2007: 21) notes that the amount of publications released in the 21st century already exceeds the number of publications done in the previous 25 years. In addition to Benson, Little and Dam, for instance Ushioda (2011) has written extensively especially about motivation and autonomous language learning.
