The coating of transparent glass and plastics is one area of application of superhydrophilic materials that holds a lot of promise. Amongst the various superhydrophilic materials, TiO2 based ones have attracted much attention for self-cleaning applications, because its surface effectively decomposes organic contaminants under ultraviolet (UV) light. Moreover, TiO2 coatings are very superhydrophilic, hence, water can easily spread over its entire surface (sheeting of water) carrying away most dirt and other impurities as well. Therefore, TiO2 based coatings can be applied to glass windows or plastics [6,7].
