Many scholars have had difficulty in the past with entrepreneurship, tending to meld it with either small business management or whit beginning something innovative or within a corporate setting. In fact it is all of these things. However, the process of merging a new venture or being innovative are tied to an elemental process, a process where management is part of it, innovation is part of it and the setting does not matter whether in or out of a corporation. That is to say, entrepreneurship is the process of starting something new. In this it has two aspects. First, it is new to the individual and carries a certain risk of failure. Acquiring a business or taking over an existing operation can entrepreneurial in that event. However, when it becomes a repetitive, managerial function in which the individual opts for lifestyle or is merely going through the motions, the activity ceases to be entrepreneurial and is a small business.
