In conclusion,we have shown that a new D4MR-containing zeolite
structure, named ITQ-22, was obtained by applying the concept of
isomorphous substitution as a structure-directing mechanism also
observed in the preparation of other zeolites, like ITQ-17 and ITQ-21.
The most important feature of the ITQ-22 is the presence of a fully
interconnected three-directional pore system with pore apertures of 8,
10 and 12 TO2 units. This is, as far as we know, the first example of a
zeolite containing such a pore system. Finally, the successful
introduction of trivalent heteroatoms (Al) into framework positions
opens the possibility of using ITQ-22 for catalysis, because its peculiar
pore topology will introduce unique shape-selectivity effects.
