Analyzing CT images includes 2 steps: angle determination and 3D reconstruction. The height reference is the horizontal plane, and the azimuth reference is the sagittal plane.The next step is to determine how straight the trajectory is expected to be using a ballistic simulant. Experiments are video captured with a Photron SA5 camera at a frame speed of 20,000–50,000 fps. In some cases, such as standard velocity 22LR fired from a short barrel, a straight line is not an acceptable model for deep penetration. However, in case 1, a gelatin simulant of soft tissue [19] demonstrated that a straight line was a reliable model for Brenneke 12-gauge slug projectiles (Fig. 2).
