Significantly higher rate of recovery of the added
hormone and high accuracy of the developed assay
procedure clearly indicate that the validated GH EIA is
reliable alternative to conventional RIA methods. Apart
from being non-radioactive in nature the assay described
here is in comparison to RIA, and can be adopted in
those labs where financial constraints as well as the need
for a license to use radioisotope limit the adoption of
RIA. Highly purified GH preparations from cattle and
other species of animals are available, and biotinylation
of GH is a simple procedure vis-a-vis GH iodination
required in RIA. Since the shelf life of the biotynalyted
hormone is several years, the assay is also highly
practicable.
