Marine fisheries are important both socially and economically for Thailand. The new Royal Ordinance for Fisheries B.E. 2558 (2015) recognize the significance of managing the fisheries resources of Thailand sustainably. Thailand has ratified a number of key legal instruments and is currently ratify to FAO Port State measures. To ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of the fishery resources through cooperation among the coastal States, and to promote the sustainable development of fisheries, Thailand is a member of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), cooperating non-member of Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) and non-contracting party of the International commission for the conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) and the Commission for the conservation of Antarctic Marine living Resources (CCAMLR). In addition, we are also willing to join the SIOFA as a contracting party in the near future. Currently, we are working on ratify of this agreement.
Attending the next SIOFA meeting will be fruitful for us to understand more about SIOFA. We do hope that our request will be accepted by the members of SIOFA and look forward for a fruitful deliberation meeting.
Please be assured of our full cooperation
