The current study reports, for the first time, on the wound healing efficiency of O. ficus-indica flower extracts. The topical application of O. ficus-indica flower extracts accelerated wound contraction and exerted beneficial effects on experimentally induced skin wounds in rats, with best results achieved with the mucilage extract. The findings also indicated that the O. ficus-indica flower extracts exhibited significant antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The results provided support for the promising candidacy of O. ficus-indica flower extracts for application as a therapeutic agent for dermal wound healing which appears to be related to their antioxidant and antibacterial properties.
