Inhibition of uterine contractions with drugs—tocolysis
Any decision to inhibit uterine contractions when
fetal viability is considered borderline (before GW
24) should be taken only after the pregnant woman
has been thoroughly informed of the high risk of
neonatal morbidity and after informed consent has
been documented in writing. According to the German
guidelines, the decision to intervene or not must
always serve the interests of the child, while taking
the parents’ interests into account as well.
