In this study, an ANAMMOX ABR was capable of absorbing overloaded
substrate and retaining or improving its performance after
both substrate and hydraulic shocks. The ABR was more tolerant of
the hydraulic shock loads than the substrate shock loads, as shown
by comparisons of the responsive index and recovery times,
although the hydraulic shocks may cause changes in the location
of the sludge. In the inhibition period, the pH and NRE of the reactor
were related to the residual ammonium and FA. The experimental
data were well-fitted to a Gaussian model.
