Short Film: “Destiny” by Fabien Weibel
The team of students at Bellecour brilliantly managed a suspenseful, complex narrative of time and multiple realities. A sort of post-modern self within a self-realization drama. A simple-complex plot detailing middle-class man coming to terms with time, death, and reality.
The elements of Simulacra and Simulation, a philosophical treatise by Jean Baudrillard, explores the relationship or interaction between society, symbols, and signs.
Aspects of the this short animation immediately reminded me of the Charlie Kaufman film, Synecdoche, New York. which illustrated similar elements: The human experience can be seen as a simulation of time, death, and reality.
