The state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday registered a case against the senior police inspector (SPI) and an assistant police inspector (API) from the Kherwadi police station for allegedly demanding the first installment of Rs 1.50 lakhs bribe from a BMC octroi officer for not arresting him in a cheating and forgery case registered against the complainant last year.

The ACB officials say that the complainant had filed an complaint against SPI Sanjay Narayan Jadhav and API Dilip Bhagwant Ingle alleging that the duo were demanding Rs five lakhs from him if he wants to escape being arrested.

A search conducted at the house of SPI Jadhav unearthed property documents, 40 tolas of gold and cash over Rs nine lakhs. So far we have not arrested any one but further investigations are in progress, ACB sources added.

In March, the Kherwadi police had registered a case against some BMC octroi officers under various sections of the IPC including sections 420, 467, 468, etc for cheating one Kherwadi resident by making forged documents. In that case they had managed to arrest four BMC officers and were looking for the absconding accused.
