Hydrotropy is the phenomenon of increasing solubility of waterinsoluble
or sparingly water-soluble organic compounds in aqueous
solutions in the presence of hydrotropes. Hydrotropes themselves are
highly water-soluble organic salts. The increase in solubility of an organic
substance is a strong function of the hydrotrope concentration and depends
not only on the nature of hydrotrope but also on the nature of solute. The
manipulation of hydrotrope concentration gives a convenient recovery
technique of solute, i.e., a mere dilution of hydrotropic solution by water
precipitates the solute
