Individual factors
Gender and neck pain
The life-long prevalence of neck pain was 53.9%
(62/115) for males and 77.8% (158/203) for
females. The results demonstrated a significant
relationship between life-long prevalence of neck
pain and gender in secondary school teachers [odds
ratio (OR)Z3.001, P!0.001, 95% confidence intervals
(CI) 1.831–4.919]. The prevalence of neck pain
since becoming a teacher was 45.2% (52/115) for
males and 62.4% (126/203) for females. A significant
relationship was found between neck pain that
had developed since becoming a teacher and
female gender (ORZ2.009, PZ0.003, 95%CI
1.262–3.197) (Table 1).
