The second administrative working paper
In the first semester of school year 1980-81, the trimester proposal
was a constant topic of discussions. The administration encouraged this
and the limited physical space on campus made it easy for individuals
and groups to meet. Feedback and suggested refinements continued to
flow in.
O n 5 December, 1980, the Academic Vice-President issued a
second working paper on the trimester plan, incorporating as muc h as
possible suggested amendments from the faculty and various other
sources. This working paper was sufficiently detailed and had
incorporated enough of the sentiments of the academic community for it
to be the basis for final review and approval by the Academic Council
(Annex 5).
Revising curricula and tuition structures
In the meantime, the Academic Vice-President worked with the
deans, the associate deans, and the Executive Officer to revise existing
curricula for the different degree programmes to suit the trimester
calendar and new flow charts of required and optional courses were
drawn up for each programme. The exercise turned out to be a good
opportunity to review curricula, eliminate overlaps, update content for
relevance, and prioritize the more important subject areas. The problem
