VII. PSYCHOSEXUAL INTEGRATION AND FORMATION
In baptism each person is called by God to follow Jesus in a life of holiness and service. This call may be lived out in different vocations (from the Latin word uocare which means "to call"), or states of life such as marriage, as a single person, or as a priest, brother or sister. A man or woman who takes the three vows of chastity, poverty and obedience for a religious motive, and lives usually in a community is called a religious. A priest is a man who has been ordained to the order of presbyter within the Church. His principal function is to preach the word, preside at worship, celebrate the sacraments, and care for the pastoral needs of the Christian community. Priests may belong to a diocese or to a religious community. If they take the three vows and belong to a religious community then they are religious. The priests who do not take the three vows but make only the promise of celibacy and obedience to the bishop are known as diocesan priests.
