Cha Chak (Teh Terik) – A newcomer to Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market
Finally, I was able to??spend some time in Chatuchak market over the weekend to gather more photos for my blog and also to pay a surprise visit to my friends. I only visited the market twice last year. ??Unfortunately, I did not manage to meet??my friends??and I spent the rest of the afternoon exploring and taking photographs.
As I was wandering around aimlessly , I found a newcomer????from the Southern, Khun Niyi Kuna , a Thai Muslim from Pattani province. He was the second tea brewer??that I met in a week. I came across the first tea brewer??in Thailand National Cultural Exhibition held at Thailand Cultural Center last Wednesday. He used to travel as far as Japan to demostrate his unique style?? of tea making. Due to poor business in the hometown, he and his friends have??decided to seek for new business opportunities in Bangkok.
As reported by local media, the 26 year old tea brewer sold 800 cups of tea over the weekend and the market shoppers were pretty impressed??with??his unique skill of southern-style tea making. The milk tea is drawn or thrown from cup to cup from great height and is known as Teh Terik in Singapore and Malaysia and mainly available in mamak (Indian Muslim) stall.?? The tea texture is rich and creamy and not as sweet as Cha Yen.????A popular southern beverage??in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala. Back in Had Yai, a number of open-air stalls set up shop selling Cha Chak (Teh Terik) and Roti along the side walk.
There are altogether??two tea stalls??in the weekend market and for sure, I will not miss home.
