Presentation: an analysis of a formal letter
We won’t meet in class this week. However, you will present and submit an analysis of a formal letter. Due to the number of students in each class, your presentations will be quite short so that we have time for everyone to present.
Upon preparing for this task, you will do the following.
1. Look for a formal letter (---therefore, read the letter carefully and make sure the letter is in English.)
2. Study the basic parts of that letter including the heading, date, salutation, body, closing and signature.
3. Identify type of that letter (complaint, invitation, or application, and so on).
4. Identify the intended audience (recipient).
5. Identify the writer and his/her purpose of writing the letter (what the writer wants or what the writer wants the reader to do).
6. List the key words in the letter.
7. Look for an example of each of the following
a. Noun phrase
b. Verb phrase
c. Verbal phrase
d. Prepositional phrase
e. Adverb phrase
8. Prepare to present your analysis next week.
9. You will have up to 5 minutes to talk.
10. At the end of your presentation, you will submit your work to me. Students who submit their analysis later than that will not receive full credits.
11. You can type or handwrite this work.
