The location of each of 57 monitors and what each one measures is shown in Fig. 1.
Unfortunately, it is more the exception than the rule for a monitor location to measure all three of the pollutants that we study.
PM10 is the most frequently monitored pollutant, followed by O3 and CO. Because of this limitation of the data, we will examine the impact of each pollutant in separate models (and samples), though we will also show one specification that
includes both CO and O3, the two pollutants that have the largest effects individually. Fig. 1 demonstrates that monitors are heavily clustered in the most populated areas of the state, which lie along the transportation corridor between New York and Philadelphia.
