Archaeologists have found animal teeth with holes in them on sites dating back more than 40,000 years. The teeth may have been worn as necklaces or bracelets.
The famous Ice Age statuettes known as the Venus of Willendorf and of Brassempouy show clear evidence of styled hair. The statues may be 30,000 years old.

The use of neckties began in 1660 when a group of Croatian soldiers came to France. They wore red handkerchiefs around their necks and looked dashing. Men in King Louis XIV's court began to wear them, too. The word cravat, another word for necktie, comes from the French word cravate (for Croat).
Men's top hats made of silk were invented in the 1790s. The hats became popular in England in the 1850s when Prince Albert wore one.
Athletic shoes came into existence around 1900, when Joseph William Foster designed a running shoe with a rubber sole. Foster started a shoe company, which later became Reebok.
With the fifties came Teenage rebellion. Pants became more commonly worn by young women. Some wore tight-fitting, calf-length pants called pedal pushers. This style of pants returned to popularity in the early 2000s.
Mary Quant created the miniskirt in the 1960s. The fashion of very short skirts has come and gone a few times ever since.
