One explanation for the
differing research findings on the effects
of tactile and kinesthetic stimulation
may be differences in the samples
used and differences in the types and
amounts of stimulation that were provided.
Despite these different findings,
results of most studies suggest that the
more medically unstable preterm infants
are at greater risk for negative responses
to stimulation.
