SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Southeast Asian political, economic, military and social issues; preferably with a regional or Burma focus, experience writing, developing, and creating multimedia products in English that incorporates graphics and video is a plus.
Native or near-native fluency in oral and written English and one Southeast Asian language, preferably Burmese or Malay is mandatory. Fluency in an additional Southeast Asian language and/or Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
Ability to translate into idiomatic English from a Southeast Asian language, and preferably a second regional language.
Strong computer literacy and familiarity with the Internet; knowledge of social media, web content management, and digital media tools.
Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast paced environment; ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Coordinating daily operations and production of regional country teams within the office.
Coordinating operations and regional news coverage with other offices and partners worldwide.
Processing text, audio, and video information using knowledge of Southeast Asia for dissemination as informational products.
Translating vernacular text into English.
Editing products for linguistic and grammatical accuracy and adherence to formatting standards.
Creating and disseminating multimedia products worldwide.
Creating, manipulating, and managing web content.
Writing analytic products on Southeast Asian and ASEAN issues, preferably with an emphasis on Burma.
Supervising, providing guidance and feedback to external contractors.
Education: A university degree in media studies or another applicable field such as Political Science, International Studies, Economics, Communications, Journalism, History, or English and/or journalistic experience.
Experience: Two to three years in a related substantive field such as media, international affairs, military, political affairs, or economics.
Special requirements: Incumbent will be required work extended hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis.
